The Welcome Package [WIP][Alt Layout]

Welcome, Recruit - to the Wandering Alliance!

If you're reading this, you've likely just had an interview with one of our characters and are now a new member of our guild - The Wandering Alliance of Tyria - and have been directed to this page for orientation. This is what we like to call the "Welcome Package"; a collection of introductory information that we hope will be useful to you as you get accustomed to both the In-Character and Out-Of-Character aspects of our Guild and community!

The information on this page is designed to give you a brief but informative overview of these various systems. If you want to dig a bit deeper, more in-depth information will be available for you to get familiar with on the respective pages and sections within the Wiki - there's also help available through the Discord, both through getting in touch with the Mentor Team or by posting any questions and queries in our #gw2-lore-chat channel.

IC Events, OOC Events and Hosting

We offer many different types of IC events for all members of the guild to freely partake in, including but not limited to: investigating ominous rumours of hostile presences, patrolling and safeguarding routes through dangerous areas, seeking out and taking down powerful enemy targets, and defending settlements and areas under direct threat.

As a typical rule, we RP combat encounters primarily through turn-based roleplay - very rarely do we engage in RPvE. For the most part, we employ a freeform 'trust' system when it comes to how your character takes and deals damage in events; sometimes, for more grandiose and dangerous encounters, dice rolls may be involved. Our primary rule is to remember to be respectful to your fellow guildmates and event-goers, and remember that everyone is here simply to have fun through collaborative storytelling.

All guild members - not just Mentors and promoted ranks - are able to (and encouraged!) to host events for fellow members to attend. If you're new to DMing/Hosting and unsure about the process and procedures, just get in touch with any of the Mentor team - we'll be addressinghappy eachto help however we can! Whether it's just answering some logistical questions, bouncing ideas off, or asking to contribute to ongoing plotlines or starting your own - our DMs are always open. We facilitate event signup creation through an easy-to-use yet intuitive bot called Apollo in our Discord that guides you through the process.

OOC Events are rare - but we make a point of theseholding (social events in our Discord server every Wednesday and someSaturday additionalevening topics)- we call this a Waypoint. It's a nice opportunity to getbond outside of RP, play games together, or even just chat and relax after the week's over. There's never any pressure to join, nor any pressure to use your microphone or camera - we have voice-text channels available to facilitate that. Characters

We consider ourselves to be a very character-focused and character-driven guild - both in regard to your fellow guildmates, the allies they make across Tyria and beyond, and the enemies they inevitably come into conflict with. We have a collection of Character Profiles here on the Wiki for all of these, and we encourage all of our members to join in by making their own profile pages to help other members immerse in the community and the stories we create.

Organisations & Alliances

The Wandering Alliance makes both allies and enemies through their missions and involvement in affairs across the world, and more often than not, these are part of larger groups. Alliances are forged with fellow guilds and businesses, and mettle is tested against hostile factions. Some examples of these are the infamous Gilded, a criminal organisation lurking in the shadows of Tyria that strive toward domination and chaos - and Accardi Corporation, a business dealing in artefact retrieval that regularly works alongside the Guild and outsources them for missions.

Story Arcs

We offer a large variety of events for our members to freely partake in and encourage members to create their own events to progress their personal stories. Some of these events that we offer are standalone and self-contained events, dealing with localised threats, investigations, or other strange occurrences; and some of these events are farther-reaching in nature, and are episodes of larger, ongoing plots.

The Wandering Alliance itself has a long-running, dynamic, and ongoing story arc involving the guild's arch-nemeses known as - you guessed it - the previously mentioned Gilded. And while there's a wealth of lore and history already written across the years of the guild's activity, it's not necessary to study up on it in order to participate in any of the story arc events. Asking around ICly during events or casual/social RP is a great way to find out the guild's history in an interactive and immersive way; you can also catch up OOCly by reading our IC-written event reports or reading articles here on the Wiki, if you wish to!

Locations

The roleplay that we offer in the Wandering Alliance takes place all over the world, like within Central Tyria, Maguuma, Elona, Cantha, Janthir, and on rare occasions - even within the Mists. The central hub that we offer, however, is our Guild Hall, known as "Hope's Rest"; a protected haven of ancient djinn buildings nestled safely within the Elonian desert, geographically located on the banks of the Elon River. Above all, it serves as a safe place for all members and a base of operations. You'll be able to find various facilities and amenities here, such as a hostel for your character to rest at, a market for your character to resupply at, a clinic to recover and heal at, a tavern to socialise at - the list goes on.

We typically adhere to established locations within game maps and avoid altering them too much from canon lore. Sometimes, during events, these physical locations may serve as other locations for the sake of the plot and scene-setting; you'll be told about these through the DM's emotes and the event's buildup. And if you're ever unsure - just ask!

Codex

The Codex is a bit of an anomaly compared to previous segments here on the Wiki; it's typically where you'll find information about both the IC and OOC systems and technical aspects we use in day-to-day roleplay. Some IC examples of these are the guild's Datapads and Earpieces, Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK), and the Bounty Board Help Request System. Some OOC examples of these are an explanation of the Combat Systems we often use in events, and the different types of Event Categories we classify them as.
